Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 3 PM NBHZ Beneath the Helmet: From High School to the Home Front is a coming of age story that highlights five young Israeli high school graduates, who are drafted into the army to defend their country. At the age of 18, away from their houses, family, and friends these young individuals undergo a demanding journey, revealing the core of who they are and who they want to be. From the creators of the PBS-featured documentary film Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference, the film Beneath the Helmet illustrates how these young men and women are protecting not only their homes, but the shared values of peace, equality, opportunity, democracy, religious tolerance and women's rights. The lessons they learn along the way, are lessons that can be adapted, understood and appreciated by everyone.

Sgt. Boruch made Aliyah in 2015, and chose to enlist in one of the most dangerous branches of the Israel Defense Force. He honored us by sharing his experiences. We are so very proud of our St. Louis Lone Soldiers who are risking their lives to protect the Jewish people.
Thank you to Nusach Hari B’nai Zion for hosting us.
SHAVING ISRAEL PRESENTED AN INFORMATIONAL FUNDRAISER ON AUGUST 16, 2015 HOSTED BY RABBI ZE'EV SMASON AND THE ISRAEL COMMITTEE OF NUSACH HARI B'NAI ZION SYNAGOGUE
The purpose was to raise money for the purchase of supplies for IDF soldiers who lack a financial or family support system. Speakers included Mike Minoff, a Board Member of Shaving Israel; Doron Fadlon, a veteran who was a commander in the IDF Maglan combat unit and served in the Reserves, and Laurie Walker, also a Board Member, who has been an IDF Sar-El Civilian Volunteer more than a dozen times.
Mike spoke about his life-altering trip to Israel in 2014, where he saw first-hand the conditions on an IDF base and developed a relationship there with Israeli soldiers defending not only their country but Jews world-wide. He brought his feelings home to teach his children. Doron, the son of Tunisian immigrants who were forced to migrate to Israel due to anti-Semitism, described himself as a proud Zionist for whom education was a family priority. His 3 children will soon be serving in the IDF when he returns home after 3 years in St. Louis representing Israel Chemicals. Doron is very proud of his nation, his service, and his opportunity to mentor young Israelis about their IDF service choices. Laurie demonstrated the kinds of items - from personal hygiene to small tools to mini-first-aid kits to hidden weapons - that she delivers to IDF soldiers on her volunteer visits. She has a special affinity for the female soldiers' needs. Laurie will realize a life-long goal in October: she will make aliyah to Israel.
Light refreshments were provided by the NHBZ Sisterhood after the presentation, and attendees had the opportunity to talk and ask questions of the speakers.
